Hunger Games Cupcakes

To say I live under a rock is an understatement. I don't watch TV, I don't listen to the radio, I don't read newspapers, because mainstream media just gets me aggravated. So it wasn't until last week, after a friend convinced me to join Tumblr, that via her fangirling there I even knew The Hunger Games was coming out. I immediately asked my boyfriend if he wanted to go - I had to wait until Sunday as the previous two days of the weekend were already booked in for a Sub Atari Knives gig and a Blacqk Audio/Evanescence concert.

Like many of you, I totally loved every second of the movie. So when I got totally frustrated with an assignment I was working on, I decided I should go into the kitchen and get frustrated with some cupcakes instead.

I baked a batch of vanilla cupcakes, topped with buttercream and set about designing the toppers.

I chose to do two of my favourite symbols and two of my favourite scenes (I know, as if you could ever pick two).

They did such a great job with the district logos, if I had time I totally would have done them all. I had to leave out some design aspects of the #12 logo just because it was too cluttered.

THAT IS MAHOGANY.

Effie was an amazing character with some of the best lines.

The same can be said for Haymitch. Both upon introduction are portrayed as very unlikeable characters, but you can't help but fall in love with them.

I had to recreate the mockingjay pin. With a lot less accuracy that I would have liked. All three mockingjay designs from the cover art are stunning. I had thoughts of making them all, but that can wait until the trilogy is out.

Can't say enough how much I loved the aesthetics of the movie. I can't wait to see it again, although the budget dictates that I may have to wait cause I can't afford repeated cinema trips.

What about you guys? Have you seen it yet? What were your favourite moments?

I'm very impressed with the detail on these. Nice work! Bet they taste good too. ;)
I'm not game to eat one. :P
They'll have to be eaten eventually. ;)
Nuuuu
These are gorgeous cupcakes! I love the detail you've captured and the scenes you've chosen to portray. I hope you don't mind, but I've tweeted the link to this post cos they're so gorgeous and I know all my Hunger Games mad friends would love to see them :)

I have seen the movie and I loved it. I'm a massive fan of the books, so I was so excited for the film. I wasn't disappointed! I think it's one of the best book-to-film adaptations I've ever seen. Of course they missed bits, but that's a given in a book adaptation and I think all the cuts they made were necessary and aided the storytelling. I don't know if I can choose just one favourite moment, but some of mine include the Reaping (so moving!), the scene at the end with Seneca (a bit morbid of me maybe, but so well done!) and any scene with Caesar!
Of course I don't mind - thank you so much for passing the link along! I appreciate it a lot.

I have to agree - I've seen so many loved books ruined by the movie version. It is important for the movie to differ because it's a different medium so it can't be the exact book on the screen, but it is important to make the right choices and I agree, the cuts were well chosen. The book is always there to fill in the blanks for those new to the fandom.
these are awesome! i'd love to share on pinterest if that's okay with you?
Certainly! I would be flattered. :)
I'm so impressed with your skill and talent! WOW!!!!! Everything you make looks so beautiful and delicious!
Thanks so much! I'm very flattered you think so.
Those are amazing!! I'm so jealous of your skills :D

Also, completely agree about Effie and Haymitch! They did such an amazing job with this film, I adore it :D
Oh thanks so much! I promise it's all practise and no skills required! ;)

I only hope the new director can do just as good a job with Catching Fire!
